Advent and Christmas Services and Events

At Christmas we celebrate God with us in the birth of Jesus Christ and during Advent we prepare ourselves through prayer and reflection for that great moment. Here are details of all our celebrations. In addition to these events we welcome a  number of schools for their Christmas services.

Sunday 3 December – The first Sunday of Advent

  • 8.00am Holy Communion
  • 10.00am Parish Eucharist with lighting of the first Advent candle
  • 4.00pm Christingle Sevice – the popular ‘Carols by Candlelight’ is enhanced by the beautiful Christingles. This is specially suitable for children and we shall use the opportunity to raise money for the Children’s Society

Sunday 10 December – The Second Sunday of Advent

Thursday 14 December

  • 11.00am Royal Motor Yacht Club Carol service at St.Mary’s Church on Brownsea Island

Saturday 16 December

  • 11.00am Brownsea Island Carol service at St.Mary’s Church

Sunday 17 December – The Third Sunday of Advent

  • 8.00am Holy Communion
  • 10.00am Family Eucharist with lighting of the third Advent Candle AND our Nativity Play presented by the children
  • 6.30pm Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols with Carols, readings and choral pieces to prepare us for the celebration

Saturday 23 December

  • 4.30pm Carols on the Green – we join with other local community organisations and churches to sing Carols on Ashley Cross Green. Mulled wine and mince pies too

Sunday 24 December – The Fourth Sunday of Advent AND Christmas Eve all rolled into one

  • 8.00am Holy Communion
  • 10.00am Parish Eucharist with lighting of the Fourth Advent Candle
  • 4.00pm Crib Service – ‘Christmas Starts Here’ specially for children. Come and help set up the Crib and get in the mood
  • 11.00pm The choir sings Carols
  • 11.30pm Midnight Mass – The first Eucharist of Christmas

Monday 25 December – CHRISTMAS DAY

  • 8.00am Holy Communion
  • 10.00am Christmas Family Eucharist

Collections – at the Crib service on Christmas Eve and the Christmas Day Family Eucharist half the money collected will go to charity. Our international charity this year is the Christian Aid Christmas appeal which is supporting work in South Sudan where we already have a link with the Diocese of Wau. Locally we shall be supporting the Poole food bank which has plenty of food but now needs some cash to cover its overheads. Incidentally you may also like to know that there will be some big events in Poole itself raising money for our local homelessness charity “Routes to Roots” Click here to find out more about that

Sunday 7 January 2018 – we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany of our Lord (the visit of the wise men)

  • 8.00am Holy Communion
  • 10.00am Family Eucharist – we place the wise men in our Christmas crib
